Good night, sweet prince

It is with heavy heart I share the news that my sister and her family had to help their beloved Thor cross over the bridge last night.

Thor was 8 years old and his illness came on suddenly and dramatically. They discovered last night that he had a tumor near his heart and it had ruptured filling him with blood.

He died peacefully in the arms of his family and surrounded by their love.

Thor was the biggest, dopiest, sweetest goofball I have ever had the pleasure to know. He was a leaner and a cuddler who wanted nothing more than a pat on the head and a pillow to snuggle on.

Thor made an appearance or two here on the blog. I thought for sure he would make many more in time...

From my sister, Donna: "He is already deeply missed."

He is indeed.

He was so little once...

And such a good boy.

Taking on the big dogs...

And then he was the big dog.

"Good night, sweet prince. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

My sister is a regular visitor here so she will see any messages of condolence you care to leave. But I will also gather them up into a card to give to her as a keepsake. Thank you.

  2. I'm so sorry about Thor. Jordan died in exactly the same way, of the same complication so I know how gutted the family must feel at this unexpected loss. Big hugs X

  3. Donna,
I'm so very sorry.  It's so hard to lose such a huge presence in your life at any time, but a loss over the holidays is especially tough.  Please know that there are many that care and understand, and send hugs.   I know that your big boy Thor was well loved and loved you all too.  And is just waiting to see you again.....

  4. To your sister, you and all those who would have had their lives made better by the non-judgemental, uncondtional love that Thor, a treasured family member, displayed, I forward my heartfelt sympathies.

In peace and kind wishes, Gary

  10. I am so sorry to hear of Thor's passing, especially so suddenly. He was such a beautiful boy and I am sure loved deeply by all lucky enough to know him. There is no easy time to say goodbye to a friend but having to do so around the holidays just makes the pain more acute. My heart goes out to your sister and her family.

Thank you for sharing his pictures here. Now he can live on in all of our memories.

  16. He does look like a big, loving goofball. I am so very sorry for your loss. He was spared a prolonged illness, but to have him taken so suddenly marks the parting so much harder for those he leaves behind. Run free, Thor.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. Every one of us who has been lucky enough to love (and be loved by) a dog understands the feeling.

Only thankful to know Thor's suffering was brief and that he passed surrounded by those who loved him.
