Back in 2009, we had the opportunity to attend the "All Sato Reunion" held by Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, Massachusetts. More on that event coming soon but first, the reason we traveled an hour north on a blistering hot summer day:
Jan and Bella meet Nilsa, Bella's rescuer. |
I think Bella remembers her, don't you? |
Nilsa is a Save a Sato volunteer. She rescues starving and abused dogs off the streets of Puerto Rico, brings them to her home and nurses them back to health before they are sent to "partner shelters" in the States for adoption. I cried upon meeting her.
(Please try to ignore the prong collar. We were new to reactive dogs and stupid.)
It's okay. Although I've never used prong collars before, I do not judge people for using them in correction.
ReplyDeleteWow, Nilsa does that? That's just pure awesomeness. I think there is such goodness in this world and I think Bella is lucky to have experienced it.
Huggies and Cheese,
Haopee
How neat!! Yes, she must remember her :) Can't wait to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteBella sure looks happy to see her. :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL! I was wondering about that prong collar. ;-)
Oh, now I'm crying. How wonderful - and what a special lady!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool you get to meet her!
ReplyDeleteNola
I came over from the blog hop and found such a sweet post! It's really awesome that you got to meet Bella's rescuer.
ReplyDeleteHi Y'all,
ReplyDeleteYep, I'd say she remembers!
Just hoppin' by to see how your week is going. Hope it's great! Wishin' y'all a great first summer day and a wonderful summer!
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Somewhere hanging on a dresser hook is Georgia's prong collar. We got it from a local dog trainer. We'd never even seen or heard of one before that. It was a last resort after every other type of walking collar from a halti to a harness failed to control her 30kg wild lunging at everything that moved on the street. As I recall, we used the prong for a very short time, less than a month. After that, she got good enough for a check and martingale and the prong was duly retired. So, as evil as it looks, it worked for us.
ReplyDeleteNilsa rescued Duke too! He was at Northeast Animal Shelter before he was transferred to Buddy Dog. We went to the reunion in 2010, but she wasn't there by the time we were. I wish we had the chance to meet her, I think Duke would remember her like Bella did.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely reunion for Bella and her savior (or at least her first one). :)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how animals remember people who have been kind to them. She looks so happy! Deccy x
ReplyDeleteI imagine I would have been emotional too. If I could meet the person who saved Delilah I bet I'd cry like a baby.
ReplyDeleteThat is so very sweet.
Wow! That must have been something! Looks like Bella does remember! Thanks to all who open their hearts to pets in need! All heroes!
ReplyDeleteOh, how wonderful! I'm sure Bella does remember Nilsa! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool that you got to meet Nilsa - she really is a Hero!! :)
ReplyDeleteWags to all
Your pal Snoopy :)
Aww, hooray for Bella! And HOORAY for Nilsa!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I completely feel you on that collar thing. When I see early pix of Des in his choke chain, I cringe.
